The hot air from your hair dryer and the heat from your flat iron can, and will, overtime, cause damage to your hair, even if used on the lowest settings. To help protect your hair from heat styling damage you only need to follow one simple rule really…..ALWAYS use a heat protectant!

A heat protectant is formulated to protect your hair from the heat as well as nourish and condition your hair to help maintain your hairs health before and after using heated styling tools.

Other than that one simple step, you can also help avoid unnecessary damage to your hair by allowing it to dry a bit before using your hair dryer and making sure that your hair is completely dry before using your flat iron or curling iron. If you use a wet to dry flat iron, please remember, these are made to be used on damp hair NOT soaking wet hair!

Treat your hair good and it will give you many more ‘good’ hair days!

For this project, I selected Courtney from Clic, a premium mannequin head with virgin hair level 4. This mannequin is simply stunning, and Tracy was immediately amazed by the hair shine it has. I agree, and in my opinion, this is definitely one the best cosmetology mannequin heads on the market today.

As I was setting up my video equipment, Dat Truong (the stylist selected for the project) explained to me what he was about to do. First, he would part the hair into 6 sections and create light color highlights. He would add volume at the base with curls, leaving the top section straight to create contrast and show the color highlights in a more dramatic effect.

For the color, he chose Matrix UL-PA (Ultra Light Palest Ash Blonde) and Matrix UL-PN (Ultra Light Palest Natural Blonde). He mixed equal parts of both colors with a ratio of 1 part color to 2 parts of 40 volume developer. The technique he used for these highlights was slicing.

How to Wax Eyebrows -

1. Using a brow brush or small toothbrush brush your eyebrows brush brows into place.

2. Warm your wax and using the small spatula stir the wax to make sure it is smooth, be sure to test the wax to ensure it is not too hot.

3. Using the spatula, take a small amount of wax and apply it to the regrowth. (the hairs you want to wax) in the direction in which the hairs grow.

4. Depending on the wax you are using, you may need to apply a cotton strip over the wax, if so, apply it before the wax dries by gently smoothing it onto the wax using your finger. If you are using a no strip wax, let the wax dry.

5. To remove the wax, pull skin taught and pull the wax or strip off in the opposite direction of hair growth, in one quick, smooth motion.

After waxing your eyebrows, any small hairs that did not come out with the wax can be removed using tweezers.

Apply a post waxing treatment to help sooth the skin, reduce redness and moisturize.

How to Curl Your Hair Using Your Hair Straightener;

• Section hair so you can work from the bottom back layers first.
• Taking a section of hair 1-2 inches in width, place the plates of your flat iron near your roots with the section of hair in between the plates.
• Wrap the section of hair around the bottom plate and clamp the iron closed.
• As you pull the iron down, rotate your hair straightener in a full circle.
• When the section of hair falls out from between the plates of your flat iron, shape curl with your fingers.
• Repeat over all sections of hair working your way to the sides and top of your hair.
