Hair Removal - Bikini Waxing Tips
The bikini line can be a sensitive area when it comes to removing hair so waxing the bikini area can sound scary for some. Bikini waxing can be both a positive and negative experience, however, if done right the negatives of bikini waxing can be diminished and removing hair from the bikini area can be a quick and simple way to achieving a smooth, hair free bikini line!

Bikini Waxing Tips -
By following a few simple tips you can help prevent irritation, ingrown hairs and any discomfort that can come from improper waxing.
1. Pre-Waxing
- Wash your bikini area before waxing as wax will adhere much better to clean dry skin. Using a pre wax treatment such as an antiseptic cleanser or body scrub will also help to prepare the skin as well as remove dead skin cells and open pores which provide a smoother, more comfortable wax.
- Use an astringent to remove any oils from the skin and dry out the hair. This will help the wax to adhere much better to the hair providing you with better results.
- Apply a small amount of talc (baby powder) onto a cotton ball and wipe gently onto your bikini line. The talc will help provide a barrier between the wax and your skin providing you with a less painful treatment.
- To get the best results make sure the hair to be waxed is all one length. Trim any hair over 1/2″ in length to ensure even hair removal.
2. Waxing
- When waxing, you want to avoid trying to wax a large area all at once. This can actually result in having to go over the same area more than once thus causing more pain and irritation. Waxing smaller areas allows you to properly remove the waxing strip with the quick, even motion you need to adequately remove the hair.
- The wax should be the consistency of honey, anything runnier than this means the wax is too hot. ALWAYS test the wax on your inner wrist before applying it to your skin to avoid burning yourself!
- Using the applicator dip it into the wax about 1.5″ deep, wiping one side of the applicator stick clean as you pull it out from the wax container.
- Holding the stick at a 45 degree angle apply a thin layer of wax to a small area of the bikini line in the direction in which the hair grows. Apply your hair removal strip over the wax and rub it with your finger in the direction of hair growth to make sure the strip is properly adhered to the hairs.
- When removing the strip is is extremely important to hold your skin taught near the bottom of the strip as well as to quickly and in one smooth motion, pull the strip off in the direction opposite of the hairs growth.
- After removing the strip, place your hand on the freshly waxed area right away and apply slight pressure as this helps sooth the area.
- Continue the above steps until all of the hair you want gone has been removed.
3. Post Waxing
- Most waxing kits will come with an oil in which helps remove any wax that may have been left on the skin. If you do not have this you can remove wax from the skin using a small amount of baby oil on a cotton ball. Gently rub it over the wax to help soften and loosen it from the skin.
- Again, your waxing kit should come with a post wax treatment such as a cooling gel or cream, apply this to the skin to help sooth and prevent irritation from waxing.
- Avoid showering or swimming for 24 hours after waxing to help prevent irritation.
- To prevent ingrown hairs and bumps after waxing, exfoliate the area gently over the next few days.
