Pedicure - At Home Pedicure

A home pedicure is a great way to save money as well as it is easier than you may think. With the right pedicure supplies, getting soft, smooth feet at home is simple!

What you need;

  • A foot bath or large bowl (big enough for your feet to soak in)
  • Towels
  • Pedicure Stone
  • Nail Clippers
  • Nail File
  • Buffing File
  • Foot Lotion
  • Nail Polish (optional)

A pedicure kit is a great option as well and usually has all of the tools you need for an at home pedicure.

Shaping Toenails-

manicure clippersIf you are going to clip your toenails, always clip the toenail straight across and it is always best to use high quality manicure clippers as toenails can be thicker and a good pair of clippers will help to reduce splitting of the toenail while clipping.

Shape toenails using a nail file and shape nails using soft strokes in one direction. Using your buffing file, again, with soft strokes in one direction, smooth nail beds. If you do not plan on wearing polish you can use a 3 sided buffing file to smooth, buff and shine nails.If you are going to apply a polish, wait until after your foot soak to do so.

Foot Soak & Smoothing Feet

Fill your foot bath or bowl with warm water and add a foot soak or bath oil. Allow feet to soak for at least 10 minutes, the rougher your feet, the longer you should soak them.

Using your pedicure stone, which has two sides, start with the rougher side and smooth out the rough areas pedicure stoneof your skin, repeat with smoother side of pedicure stone until feet are soft and smooth. Rinse feet.

While feet are still damp, apply a moisturizing lotion or foot cream and massage into feet. Allow lotion to absorb and dry.

If applying nail polish, use a small amount of acetone nail polish remover to remove any oils from the moisturizing lotion on the nail bed before painting toenails.
