Eyebrow Shaping - How to Shape Eyebrows
Our eyebrows are the frame to our face and even, perfectly shaped eyebrows go unnoticed where as unruly, unshaped eyebrows attract unwanted attention.
Eyebrow shaping can be simple if you follow a few simple steps.
What you will need-
- Professional Tweezers - Slant tweezers work best
- Eyebrow or eyeliner pencil
- Brow Shaping Scissors
- Eyebrow Brush or Clean Mascara Wand
1. First, you want to figure out where your eyebrows should start, arch and end. To do this, take your pencil and line it up along the side of your nose so that it goes right along the side of your inner eye, up to the brow. Where your pencil sits is where your eyebrow should start. If your eyebrow goes past this point then make a mark above your eyebrows so you know where the extras hairs are that will need to be tweezed. Repeat on other eyebrow.
2. Next, line your pencil up so that it sits at the outer part of your iris (the colored circle of your eye) This is where your eyebrows arch should be. Using your pencil, draw a small dot above your eyebrow to mark this spot. Repeat on other eyebrow.
3. Now you need to mark where the eyebrow should end. To do this, take your pencil and line it up so it sits at the base of your nose going to the outer corner of your eye up to your brow. This is where your eyebrow should end. Again, mark this spot and then repeat on other eyebrow.
When shaping your eyebrows you want to keep a natural shape as well as find the best shape for your face. To find the best brow shape for your face shape check out this eyebrow shape chart.
The next step is to determine how thin or thick you want you want your eyebrows to be. You can do this by filling in your brows (make sure to follow the marks you made as well as the shape guide) with your pencil until you find the desired thickness and shape you want. Remember, start out with removing less as you can always take off more but you cannot put back what you take off!
Once you have filled in eyebrows you are ready to start tweezing. If you are worried about the pain of tweezing, or do find it hurts, tweeze eyebrows immediately after getting out of the shower, this helps the hairs come out with less pain.
If you look closely at your eyebrows you will notice the hairs grow in layers, one above the other. Use this as
a guide and tweeze one layer at a time to keep a straight bottom edge. Follow your markings and tweeze the hairs which you did not color in with your pencil. You may have to wipe the pencil off and re-apply it should you decide to go thinner.
Once you have finished tweezing eyebrows you may want to trim them. I only recommend this if you have long or brushy eyebrows. To do this you take the eyebrow brush or clean mascara wand and first brush the hairs directly up. Trim any excess hair that goes above your eyebrow using brow shaping scissors.
Next, brush the hairs down and trim any excess hairs which go below your eyebrow.
If your eyebrows are thin, sparse or super light, be sure to check out this post on how to fill in eyebrows.
